King Koopa Nerite Snail (Neritina juttingae)
Small snail, mighty shell! The King Koopa Nerite Snail stands out with its rounded, horn-like spikes and striking mix of dark brown and golden tones. Each shell has its own pattern, making every snail a little different.
King Koopa Nerites graze on algae and biofilm across aquarium glass, rocks, and décor without eating healthy plants. They are peaceful with shrimp and gentle community fish. They may lay small white eggs, but the young cannot develop in a freshwater aquarium, so they will not overpopulate your tank.
Care at a glance
- Temperature: 22–28°C
- pH: 7.0–8.0 preferred for shell health
- Adult size: Approximately 3 cm
- Diet: Algae and biofilm; offer algae-based food if natural growth is limited
- Aquarium: A mature, stable freshwater tank with plenty of surfaces to graze
Avoid copper-based medications and provide minerals to support healthy shell growth. Shell colour, pattern, and spike shape vary naturally between individuals.
