Bucephalandra ‘Theia Black’ is a striking, slow-growing aquatic plant prized for its exceptionally dark foliage. Its elongated, gently rippled leaves develop deep green, purple and nearly black tones, often enhanced by subtle metallic or bluish highlights under aquarium lighting.
This compact Bucephalandra variety is an excellent choice for attaching to driftwood, rock or other hardscape. Its rich coloration creates a dramatic contrast against lighter plants and makes it especially effective in detailed aquascapes, nano tanks and shrimp aquariums.
Like other Bucephalandra, Theia Black grows from a rhizome that must remain above the substrate. Secure the plant to hardscape using thread or aquarium-safe glue, and it will gradually attach itself as it grows. Although it can tolerate lower light, moderate lighting and stable water conditions will encourage its best colour and form.
Care Level: Easy
Lighting: Low to moderate
Growth Rate: Slow
Placement: Foreground to midground; attach to rock or driftwood
CO₂: Not required, but beneficial
Propagation: Cut or divide the rhizome
Recommended Temperature: 20–28°C (68–82°F)
Important: Do not bury the rhizome, as this may cause the plant to rot. Colour, leaf shape and size may vary depending on growing conditions and aquarium lighting.
