Here's a summary of parameters for Cabomba furcata (Purple Cabomba):
- Scientific Name: Cabomba furcata
- Water Temperature: 68-82°F (20-28°C)
- pH Level: 6.0-7.5
- Water Hardness: Soft to moderately hard (2-15 dGH)
- Lighting: Cabomba furcata requires moderate to high lighting levels for optimal growth. Provide at least 8-10 hours of light per day, preferably with full spectrum LED lighting.
- CO2 Requirement: CO2 supplementation is highly beneficial for promoting healthy growth and intense coloration, especially in higher light setups. Injection of CO2 will help prevent algae and encourage lush growth.
- Substrate: A nutrient-rich substrate is preferred. Use a high-quality planted aquarium substrate or add root tabs to provide essential nutrients. However, Purple Cabomba can also be grown as a floating plant.
- Propagation: Cabomba furcata can be propagated by stem cuttings. Simply cut healthy stems and replant them into the substrate, or allow them to float until they develop roots.
- Care Level: Moderate to high. Regular pruning is necessary to prevent the plant from becoming too dense and shading lower leaves. Trim any yellowing or dead leaves to promote new growth.
- Special Considerations: This plant is known for its vibrant purple coloration, which intensifies under strong lighting and CO2 supplementation. It appreciates good water flow to prevent algae growth and to distribute nutrients evenly. Regular fertilization with a comprehensive liquid fertilizer containing iron is recommended to support its growth and color.
By maintaining these parameters and providing proper care, Cabomba furcata (Purple Cabomba) can thrive in your aquarium, adding a stunning splash of purple to your aquascape.
